ECWA/TENKAN meeting deadlocked over CAN presidency candidate

The growing contention over the nomination of a candidate for the race to succeed Pastor Ayo Ortisejafor as president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), could not be resolved yesterday at the meeting of the Tarayyar Ekklesiyoyin Kristi A Nijeria (TEKAN) and Evangelical Church Wining All (ECWA), a bloc of the association.
The leadership of the bloc failed to reach a resolution, for yet another time, to send a nominee to the represent TEKAN/ECWA at the election of a successor to Oritsejafor, stakeholders told Daily Trust, saying the meeting ended in a deadlock after the crisis within the ECWA unit of the bloc only worsened because of growing interest between either jettisoning the race to allow its member, Professor Musa Asake continue as CAN General Secretary; or throwing the church’s weight behind Reverend Jeremiah Gado to run for the presidency.

“For yet another time, the meeting of the leadership of the bloc could not resolve on holding an election to nominate a candidate to represent the bloc. Although TEKAN has no issues, ECWA has for months now battled with the contention whether to jettison the race, and by so doing continue its tenancy in the office of the General Secretary; or to go into the race, and lose that seat,” a stakeholder said, although he insisted he had no official approval to speak to newsmen yet.
“There was no resolution taken; the bloc could not hold the election to nominate a candidate.  The meeting deadlocked,” he said, adding, “by implication, the bloc had no candidate.”
Meanwhile, Evangelist Simon Timothy Nasso, the national president of a pressure group within CAN, the Patriotic Christian Youth of Nigeria (PCYN), yesterday denied allegations that he was behind a reported impeachment attempt on the president of the youth wing of CAN, Engr. Daniel Kazai. Asking to be left out of the controversy.
