Former President Goodluck Jonathan returned to the country after weeks abroad.
He arrived on the eve of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Ogoni in Rivers state. Buhari will paying his second visit to the Niger Delta since he took over from Jonathan, to flag-off clean-up of oil spills in the area.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced Joanthan’s return to the country in a tweet.
The tweet read: “The hero of our democracy is back home,” and showed a picture of the former president at an airport.
A source at the hierarchy of the party also confirmed to TheCable that the former president was back in the country.
During his absence, there were reports that he had gone on exile for fear of arrest by the government, but he debunked the news, saying he was out of the country to get some rest, and would soon return.
