Misty Copeland now has her own ‘Barbie’ and she just made the big reveal on the ‘Good Morning America’ show.
Copeland became the first black principal dancer at the American Ballet Theater last year and it was only right that she would be commemorated in doll form.
She says “I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on, It’s an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll.”
Misty Copeland, revealed the new Barbie doll made by Mattel and the figure reflects her performance of “Firebird” which was her first performance as ABT principal.
The doll is part of the ‘Barbie Sheroes programme’, which honors women who inspire girls by breaking boundaries and expanding possibilities for a diverse group of women. Previous Sheroes include movie director Ava DuVernay, actresses Emmy Rossum and Zendaya, and singer Trisha Yearwood.
The Misty Copeland doll is now available for purchase online.
